Tolpuddle Old Chapel is situated in the historic village of Tolpuddle, opposite Orchard Meadow park. The address is:

We are open to the public on Thursday mornings 10:00 – 12:00 throughout the Spring and Summer seasons. At other times it may be possible to arrange an individual or group visit, subject to a steward being available to open the Old Chapel for you. Please enquire by emailing info@tolpuddleoldchapeltrust.org

Entrance is free, but maintaining the Old Chapel, sadly, is not! We ask that you consider making a donation to help with the upkeep of the Old Chapel so that we can continue to open it for visitors. We also have a range of merchandise available to purchase.

Travelling by car:

There is free parking on the road outside the Old Chapel. Please be considerate of our neighbours and do not block any adjacent driveways.

Travelling by public transport:

The nearest railway station is at Moreton (Dorset) on the main Southwestern Railway line from London Waterloo. However there is no taxi rank at Moreton, so unless you have brought your bicycle, it is better to travel on to Dorchester South on the same line. If you are travelling from the north, west or south you will arrive via Great Western Railways at Dorchester West station. Taxis are available at both these stations and the journey is approximately 20 minutes.

Whilst you are here….

Other sites of interest in the village include the TUC Martyrs’ Museum, the Martyrs’ tree on The Green where some of the agricultural labourers are believed to have met, the grave of martyr James Hammett in the the churchyard of St John the Evangelist, and of course the church itself, the earliest parts of which date to the 12th century.

We are also fortunate to have a pub in the village, The Martyrs’ Inn, which reopened in 2023. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
